The Wyoming Air National Guard’s 153rd Airlift Wing cut the ribbon on its new headquarters building in Cheyenne Monday morning.

The $30.5 million state-of-the-art facility, which has been under renovation since March 2012, will house over 300 personnel.

“It’s a beautiful building, but more importantly it supports our guard,” said Governor Matt Mead.

“We really built this space so they could use it for a whole lot of different things,” said Project Manager Darrel Miller. “If you look at the walls you’ll see nothing in the walls, there’s no outlets, there’s nothing like that. If they need to reconfigure, they can just take the wall and move it. It’s quick and it’s easy.”

In addition to the plug-and-play office space, the 144,000 square foot building also boasts one of the country’s top C-130 hangars.

“This is really a preeminent facility for C-130s,” said Miller. “The jib cranes, nobody else has them. We were the first to get those in the guard units. The foam system, believe it or not, this thing (the hangar) will fill with 10 foot of foam in about 72 seconds.”

Colonel Bradley Swanson, Commander of the 153rd Airlift Wing, says the new building will allow the unit to better accomplish their mission of providing combat airlift to Wyoming and the nation.

“This building marks the future of the 153rd,” said Colonel Swanson.
