Wyomingites are well adapted to cold weather, but not everyone embraces it. Some love it, some hate it. Here are five benefits of the cold weather that might make some of the haters rethink their feelings about winter in Wyoming.

#1 - Less Bugs Around To Annoy You

Aside from a few spiders that have found shelter in your warm house, there are very few insects/arachnids that survive the cold temps of winter. The mosquitoes that plague our warmer months are no where to found. If West Nile is a concern of yours, you can rest easy for a few more months.

#2 - You Can 'Forget' Your Leftovers In The Car

We've all been there. Whether from a restaurant or family dinner, it is very easy to forget your leftovers in the car when you get out. Typically by the time you remember you had forgotten them, it is too late and they have spoiled. You don't have to worry about that when it is -5 degrees outside. It is probably colder in you car than it is in your freezer so your leftovers should still be good.

#3 - The Cold Brings Us Closer

When it is super cold, the wind is blowing, and going anywhere outside is an unbearable task, we tend to shut ourselves in. In doing so, we also tend to reach out to friends and family more via phone, text, video chat, and social media. According to a 2012 study, folks tend to talk 'longer than usual' to friends over the phone during the cold winter months. So grab a warm cup of cocoa, a warm blanket and call your mom - she misses you.

#4 - Cold Weather Is Better For Sleeping

I don't know about you, but I sleep way better in a colder room. I cannot sleep when it is 80 degrees inside my house. Also, since the sun sets much earlier in the winter, people tend to go to bed earlier. The better sleep you get, the more energy you will have in the morning. Plus you will need that energy to wake up early and spend the first hour of your day shoveling the walkways and driveway.

#5 - You Will Appreciate Spring More

It is the tale of good vs. evil. Light vs. dark. You tend to appreciate something more when you are coming out of the opposite. Spring wouldn't have such an open-armed welcome if it were not for the previous months of frozen hell you had just endured. You appreciate the good more when the bad is behind you. Only a few more months left, hang in there.
