Over the past year, the agency's K9 teams have seized over half a ton of marijuana, marijuana, heroin, and meth, according to the sheriff. Alvarez is charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.

At last report, he was being held in the Sweetwater County Detention Center on $25,000 bond.
