UPDATE:

Luckily, no one was injured when a young, male mountain lion wandered into a neighborhood in east Cheyenne this (Thursday) morning.

Wyoming Game and Fish Department spokeswoman Robin Kepple says the yearling cat, which was initially reported as a bobcat, was spotted in the area of Plum Drive around 4 a.m.

“We received a call about this mountain lion around 9 a.m.,” said Kepple.  “It was hiding under some bushes in a backyard.”

“We were able to tranquilize the mountain lion and go in and capture him,” Kepple added.  “Then we put him in a bear trap and we were able to move him out at that point.”

Kepple says the mountain lion was deemed healthy and has been released in the Snowy Range.

“Hopefully he’ll stay away from town from now on,” said Kepple. “If he turns up in town again with an ear tag then we may have to euthanize him.”

“It’s not uncommon to see a cat that age coming around people just because they’re trying to learn how to survive,” she added.
