Councilman Richard Johnson’s bid to repeal a ban on skateboarding downtown was voted down 6-4, but now a colleague wants to allow commuters to skate to work.

Mark Rinne's new ordinance still prohibits skateboarding, except for those who keep it rolling on up the street.

Hmmm, are there good reasons for that?

It may be a “DUI Mobile” (but like any vehicle, don’t drive a skateboard drunk). ... Like walking, it’s still exercise. It just goes faster, and generally beats walking. ... It could also be fun watching a bad skate-boarder take a little tumble.

Maybe the best reason for repeal is from our friend, Keith Coombes, at Ernie November’s Shop downtown, where you can buy skateboards, but you can't skate. Keith says, “It’s just a youthful thing. I’m 40, and it makes me feel like a kid again.”

So now on to your vote please.
