2019 was the coldest New Year Wyoming has seen in decades, especially in the tiny town of Bondurant where the temperature (not the wind chill) dropped to 33 below.

Bondurant lies 34 miles southeast of Jackson in the Bridger-Teton National Forest. At just over 6,600 feet in elevation, it's the coldest town in the state with an average year-round low temperature of 18.7 degrees and an average low of -3.1 in January. In a typical year, the low temperature will fall below freezing 264.9 days.

It was also the coldest place in the Cowboy State on New Year's Day, although a few other towns were nearly as frigid.

Dubois hit -29. Big Piney, Kemmerer, Pinedale, and the south entrance to Yellowstone National Park each fell to -27. A total of 12 Wyoming weather stations recorded temperatures below -25; 26 weather stations fell below -20, according to the National Weather Service in Riverton.
