U.S. Open Rough Higher Than Wyoming High Plains [VIDEO, POLL]

What is the toughest golf course in Wyoming? Actually we’ll poll that, but I doubt there is one as hard as this week’s U.S. Open venue. The rough is higher than even the pros can handle.

On any normal public course, long rough can make it hard to find a ball. Ask me how I know. Usually that’s just because the ground crew hasn’t gotten around to cutting it. At Erin Hills outside Milwaukee, the site of this year’s U.S. Open, the USGA actually intended it to be so tall no one can get a club through it.

For four days every Father’s Day week, golf fans love to watch the best in the world struggle on the most difficult set up all year. The 2017 version, however, may be one remembered for decades as just too brutally hard.

Professional Kevin Na shot video of his ball where he had to bend weeds to even see. After one swing at it, the ball barely moved one foot, into more of same. Even those good enough to play in a U.S. Open do not totally wiff. This tall grass blows back and forth like on the high plains in Wyoming wind.

Thursday through Sunday you can live stream free right here. See the U.S. Open tee times and television schedule here. It should be fun to watch, if not painful.
