There’s a long list of country music, western and rodeo legends who have appeared at Cheyenne Frontier Days over the years, including “Buffalo” Bill Cody, Johnny Cash, George Strait, Garth Brooks, Lane Frost, Will Rogers and Chris LeDoux, just to name a few.

But did you know that several United States Presidents have also visited the “Daddy of ‘Em All”?

Theodore Roosevelt was the first, and only, sitting president at Frontier Days, which was just Frontier Day back in 1903. In 1910, Roosevelt returned to CFD as a Presidential candidate.

In 1960, then-Vice Presidential candidate Lyndon Johnson rode the famous CFD Train from Denver to Cheyenne.

Although it wasn’t during CFD, Johnson’s running mate John F. Kennedy spoke at Frontier Park in September of 1960.

Following his appearance Wyoming’s Centennial Day celebration in 1990, George H.W. Bush came back to the Cowboy State after his Presidency, giving a speech at the University of Wyoming and visiting CFD.

Another Presidential candidate, Wendell Wilkie, came to Frontier Days when he unsuccessfully ran for office in 1940.
