A woman was caught on camera trying to pet a bison near the Old Faithful Lodge at Yellowstone National Park on opening day.

A visitor posted a video to the Yellowstone Visitor Facebook page showing a woman approaching a bison near the Old Faithful Lodge at Yellowstone National Park.  The page shared her video along with posting this response: "NEVER APPROACH WILDLIFE and NEVER PET THEM. Sadly, this visitor thought it was a good idea to PET a Bison. A ranger was called and shortly after this clip was filmed, the visitor was talked to by a ranger. A Bison attack can result in injury or death." This is not the first person to get too close to the wildlife at Yellowstone.

Wildlife should not be approached, regardless of how tame or calm they appear. When an animal is near a trail, boardwalk, parking lot, or in a developed area, visitors must give it a wide berth and not approach it closer than the required minimum distances: 25 yards (23 m) away from all large animals – bison, elk, bighorn sheep, deer, moose, and coyotes and at least 100 yards (91 m) away from bears and wolves.
