The Wyoming State Fair works to improve each year and the 102nd looks to continue that trend.  By building on the momentum gained from the 100th and 101st celebrations, the Wyoming State Fair is bringing high profile entertainment while maintaining the traditions of education, youth competition, the western way of life while showcasing of the state’s agriculture industry.

The Wyoming State Fair will be in Douglas, WY on August 9-16, 2014. During this week in Douglas, patrons will see all that Wyoming has to offer. “The Wyoming State Fair has been, and continues to be a Wyoming cowboy tradition,” said James Goodrich, Director of the Wyoming State Fair. “This year is no different. We are bringing two PRCA rodeo competitions, the State Ranch Rodeo Finals, three amazing concerts and more while maintaining family friendly, affordable experience for all patrons of the fair.”

There will be a wide variety of events and activities for all ages to come and enjoy. Some of the most anticipated include the grandstand events. This year, country acts Trace Adkins with Chancey Williams and the Younger Brothers Band and Chris Cagle will be performing on Aug. 12th and 16th respectively.  Christian Rock group Building 429 will be playing August 13th with for KING & COUNTRY opening. Along with this, the Demolition Derby will take place on the 9th and the pig ‘n mud wrestling championships on the 11th. Finally, the grandstand events will wrap up with three days of rodeo action including PRCA rodeos the 14th and 15th and the Wyoming State Ranch Rodeo Finals on the 16th.

The grandstand events aren’t the only entertainment opportunities at the 102nd Wyoming State Fair. The Wyoming State Fiddle Championship will be the 9th and 10th and DockDogs are back for the second year with performances during the week. Then, the sheep wagon, dutch oven cook-off and coolest pick-up contests will be making their third appearance. Along with this, the carnival will be at the fair the whole week and more activities for our youngest fairgoers with wandering entertainment acts like clowns and the Enchanted Wagon as well as multiple age appropriate play areas.

Even with all these entertainment options, the center stage will continue to be the youth agriculture competitions. “While we have gone to great lengths to bring great entertainment at very affordable cost to the patrons of the fair, but the most important thing we do is still the youth competition,” said Goodrich. “The effort and time they devote to these competitions is admirable and helps mold them into the finest they can be for their state and the agriculture industry.” The state fair continues to be the largest youth competition in the state.

Like many years before, the Wyoming State Fair has always been “A Wyoming Cowboy Tradition” and the 102nd will be no different. On Aug. 9-16 in Douglas, like each year before, family, fun, agriculture, education, entertainment and tradition will be celebrated and showcased at the Wyoming State Fair.
