As I visited Glendo over the weekend for a fishing tournament, it was very apparent to everyone that the water level is rising quickly and many camping area roads and spots were already flooded.

The Wyoming State Parks department issued the following press release and have established an informational phone number so visitors can get up-to-date info regarding water levels, boat ramp and campsite availability.

Recent rain combined with an extensive snow pack has resulted in high water flows along the Platte River impacting Seminoe, Glendo and Guernsey state parks.

Water levels are expected to continue to increase along the Platte River through June resulting in higher than normal water levels at the reservoirs through much of the summer. However, although some campsites and, possibly ramps, may be affected, water recreation opportunities at the reservoirs should not be impacted.

Water is expected to flow over Indian Point Road at Glendo State Park by the end of this week resulting in the closure of Indian Point Campground. Additionally, rising waters are expected to impact many of the low lying campgrounds at Sandy Beach.

In anticipation of continued rising water levels at Glendo, two Indian Point restrooms have been pumped, sanitized and locked.

Visitors can expect to see temporary campsites available at all affected state parks in coming weeks. Frequent visitors will find that reservoirs during high water can provide a unique experience, as long as recreationists plan ahead.

"High water at Glendo is not an uncommon occurrence,” Glendo State Park Superintendent Brian Johnson said. “Yes, some amenities may be affected but we are working with the community of Glendo and the local marina to ensure our visitors have the ability to experience one of the best reservoir parks in Wyoming."

Due to the potential for rapidly increasing water levels, visitors are reminded to use caution when camping near the shoreline.

All trails at Glendo are open, however access from the north side at Sandy Beach is closed. However, trail access is still available at Two Moon, Wetlands and the Dam Overlook.

Beginning Monday, May 16, an informational phone number will be activated and visitors can get up-to-date information regarding water levels, boat ramps and campsite availability and by calling 1-307-777-3483.
