The third annual Wyoming Law Enforcement Memorial 5K will take place in downtown Cheyenne on May 21.

"The 5K is going to be taking place during Police Week," said Cheyenne Police Officer Dan Long. "Over 60 Wyoming Peace Officers have lost their lives in the line of duty."

All proceeds from the 5K will go to the Wyoming Law Enforcement Memorial Fund, which was started by area law enforcement agencies in 2011.

"As part of this charity to raise funds towards the production of a bronze sculpture to honor the Wyoming fallen peace officers, we actually came up with the idea of a 5K," said Long.

The sculpture will be created by a Wyoming artist and prominently displayed in the capitol city.

"It may be a few years before we get the money to buy the sculpture and actually have it made," said Long.

Donations to the Wyoming Law Enforcement Memorial Fund can be sent to P.O Box 1493, Cheyenne, WY 82003.

Those wishing to participate in the 5K can register at Foot of the Rockies in Cheyenne or online at Active.com.
