The Boeing B-29 was critical in ending the war with Japan, saving millions of lives. There were 3,970 B-29s produced between 1943 and 1946 but ONLY ONE is still flying today and her name is Fifi.

Fifi is in Cheyenne for a very short time for the National Air Tour of Historic WWII Aircraft at Cheyenne Regional Airport 300 E. 8th Ave. Cheyenne, WY 82001 where for $10, you can get up close to this magnificent piece of history.

Years ago I took a flight in a B-24 and made it all the way back to the tail. It was hard not to imagine the bursts of ground based enemy ground based ack ack guns trying to knock you out of the sky. I thought about the enemy planes swarming and swooping in at you like angry bees spitting death.

As the tail gunner, it's your job to save your life, the lives of your crew mates and the mission you are all on to sae America and I dare say the world. It fet very remote and lonely back there and i was just flying along the front range in Northern Colorado.

We live free, standing on the shoulders of some very brave men who kept us free then still do to this day.

Their last day at Cheyenne Regional is Wednesday, August 24, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

B-29 flies at 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Aircraft tours available starting at 9 a.m. Supporting aircraft available for rides all day
