This month, we've been spotlighting many of Wyoming's most haunted places. For years, ghost sightings have been reported all over the Cowboy State. But no other location even comes close to matching the haunted history of F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne.

Unexplained and mysterious events have been occurring there since the late 1860s, when Fort D.A. Russell was first established to protect railroad workers from conflicts with local native american tribes.

For over a century, witnesses have reported the ghosts of cavalry men, dressed in uniform, who patrol the base at night.

Another infamous legend involves Building 34, which once housed the hospital's morgue before later becoming the headquarters for base security. Countless ghost sightings have been reported throughout the building.

One of the most gruesome stories involves the base's family campground area, known as the FamCamp. Some believe the sight is haunted by the ghost of a young native american woman, who was brutally assaulted and killed by a group of soldiers in the 1920s.

Others have reported witnessing the ghost of a nurse in Building 223, which formerly served as the living quarters for many woman on base. One popular story alleges she was one of six nurses killed by a deranged man who had escaped from the hospital. The building is now occupied by the Wyoming Wing Civil Air Patrol.

Perhaps the most famous legend of F.E. Warren's haunted past is that of "Gus Quarters". Back in the early days of the Fort, a man named Gus was living in the barracks at Quarters 80. According to local lore, an officer returned from maneuvers one day, only to find his wife in bed with Gus. Gus tried to escape from the angry officer by jumping out of a second story window. Sadly, Gus hung accidentally hung himself on a clothes line as he fell.

Following the incident, soldiers in the barracks have reported Gus' ghost attempting to open cabinets and moving objects around the living quarters, leading some to believe that Gus is still searching for his pants all these years later.
