U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) released the following statement regarding the Obama Administration’s carbon emissions agreement with China:

While this is a terrible deal for Americans, it’s a great deal for the Chinese government and the Chinese economy. This agreement forces Americans to drastically decrease our emissions immediately - yet allows China to let their emissions continue to rise for the next 16 years.

Once again, this Administration is putting American workers and our economy at a tremendous disadvantage to the rest of the world. President Obama’s and Secretary Kerry’s focus on building their international legacy shouldn’t be at the expense of the American people.

After basking in applause on the world stage, the President and the Secretary should immediately come home and visit the communities that will be hardest hit by this unbalanced plan. They need to hear directly from people in energy producing communities who will lose their jobs and find it harder to put food on the table because of this deal.

Republicans agree that we should make American energy as clean as we can, as fast as we can, without increasing electricity bills for hardworking Americans and costing thousands of jobs.
