Long Live Duke From Bush's Baked Beans.
We all know those infamous Bush's Baked Beans with Jay and his best friend Duke? Well, one of the dogs that portrayed Duke, passed away the other day.
The commercials became so well known because Jay and Duke, the dog spoke to each other. Obviously, dogs can't talk, but that's what made the commercials so much fun. The banter between the two was the best. Duke always had a snarky comment for Jay. Duke was always on the verge of spilling the beans so to speak on the secret family recipe.
If the passing of Duke wasn't enough, here's something else to add to it. His name was not really Duke, it was Sam. Sam lived in Apopka, Florida with his owner Susan. Wait, so his owner was not Jay either. Oh man, the hits just keep on coming.
The neighbor of Susan and "Duke" wrote a post on Facebook about the passing of Duke. Bush's Baked Beans caught wind of it and had this as a response:
"We continue to be overwhelmed by fan interest and their love of Duke. The relationship between Jay and his beloved dog Duke is the embodiment of the BUSH'S brand, and has been a part of our family story for more than 20 years," Bush's Baked Beans wrote on Facebook on Tuesday. "During that time, we've worked closely with several dogs who portrayed Duke in our commercials, including Sam."
The company says Sam hasn't played "Duke" in recent years, yet they are "saddened by the news of his passing and are grateful to have had him depict Duke."
"Because Duke is iconic to BUSH'S and so adored by our fans, we will continue to use him in our ads," the company's statement said.
"Sadly [Susan] had to euthanize Sam yesterday due to an aggressive cancer he was suffering from," Odom's post from June 28 reads. "She is as we are heartbroken."
Beans are one of the biggest crops that come out of Wyoming. The state as a whole makes around $37 million just in beans per year. We hope that Jay finds a new "Duke" so Wyoming can keep husbands across America eating that magical fruit, remember the more you eat the more you toot.
