As thousands of children get ready to trick-or-treat next week, here's a sobering reminder for parents. There are currently 375 registered sex offenders in Laramie County and some of them probably live in your neighborhood.

A Laramie County Sheriff's Office map indicates 324 registered sex offenders living within a five-mile radius of downtown Cheyenne, along with 10 registered offenders in Burns, three in Pine Bluffs, two in Albin and Hillsdale, and one in Carpenter.

Many of their victims were children, who are especially vulnerable during events like Halloween. Parents are urged to make sure that all children under the age of 12 are supervised by a responsible adult while trick-or-treating. Laramie County Sheriff Danny Glick also encourages parents to check for registered sex offenders living in their areas and to warn children to avoid them.

"Trick-or-treating is a great adventure for children," Glick noted. "Keep it fun by preparing yourself and your children for a safe night out."
