For the first time this season, the Wyoming Cowboys have won back-to-back games thanks to a 24-9 victory over San Jose State Saturday in Laramie.

Nico Evans ran for 187 yards and a touchdown, while Sean Chambers added 129 yards on the ground and a touchdown. Evans became the 10th player in school history to rush for 1,000 in a season. Saturday was his sixth 100-yard game this year. Evans has played in only eight of the 10 games this season.

Wyoming (4-6, 2-4) ran for 424 yards in the game. That was their most since a 430-yard outburst against Eastern Michigan Sept. 12, 2015.

San Jose State (1-8, 1-4) was limited to 244 yards on offense. The Spartans had just 39 total yards in the first half and were shutout. They didn’t get a first down until their fourth drive of the game.

The Cowboys scored on the game’s opening possession. Cooper Rothe kicked a 26-yard field goal for a 3-0 lead. They reached the red zone on their second drive, but a holding penalty knocked UW back. Rothe missed his first field goal this year from 43-yards out.

Wyoming made it 10-0 when Evans raced untouched up the middle from 58-yards away on the first play of the second quarter. The Pokes also missed a scoring chance when Chambers fumbled inside the San Jose State five-yard line. It was recovered by the Spartans at their own one.

San Jose State took their first drive of the second half and got their first points on a 26-yard field goal by Bryce Crawford.

The Cowboys answered right back when Chambers weaved through the defense and down the left sideline for a 64-yard touchdown run. That made it 17-3.

Another fumble by UW led to the Spartans only TD of the game. Josh Love found Tre Walker for a 17-yard touchdown pass and cut it to 17-9, after a failed PAT.

Wyoming came right back with a drive that covered 75-yards on 14 plays and took 7:39 off the clock. The Pokes iced it with a 20-yard Chambers to Austin Fort touchdown pass.

UW finished with season-best 475 yards on offense. Chambers was 4-8 passing for 51 yards. They also had over 36 minutes in time-of-possession and went 9-for-16 on third down. Defensively, Logan Wilson led the way with 10 tackles, including one tackle for loss.

Spartans’ QB Josh Love was 19-32 for 173 yards with a TD and was sacked once. Tyler Nevens added 70 yards rushing, while Josh Oliver had five catches for 66 yards.

Wyoming has their second bye week coming up. They return to the field Nov. 17 with their home finale against Air Force.
