As the country mourns the loss George H.W. Bush, here is a look back at several visits the 41st President paid to the Cowboy State.

Bush, Sr. came to Wyoming twice as President, first in 1989 to survey damage from wildfires in Yellowstone National Park. During that trip, he went fly fishing near Cody and visited Buffalo Bill Cody's hunting cabin.

The President returned in 1990, riding in the Wyoming Centennial Day Parade and reading a proclamation at the State Capitol.

After his term was over, the Bush, Sr. came back to Wyoming, spending a day at Cheyenne Frontier Days and touring the campus at the University of Wyoming in Laramie.

Bush, Sr.'s closest connection to the Cowboy State was longtime colleague Dick Cheney. Like Bush, Cheney had attended Yale and both were influential Republicans through the 70s and 80s. Cheney briefly served as the Congressional Minority Whip during Bush, Sr.'s first year as President before he was appointed Secretary of Defense during the Gulf War. Cheney later returned to politics, serving as Vice President for George W. Bush from 2001 to 2009.
