POLL: Who Should Win New Female Vocalist of the Year at the 2017 ACM Awards?
The 2017 ACM Awards are just around the corner, which means a new New Female Vocalist of the Year will soon be crowned. From a longtime songwriter who released her second solo album to high acclaim to a new face who took home the Grammys trophy for Best Country Solo Performance, all four of this year's New Female Vocalist of the Year nominees had a huge year in 2016. Who do you think will take home the top honor?
Lauren Alaina first made waves during the 10th season of American Idol and with her subsequent debut album, Wildflower, in 2011. In 2016, Alaina opened up about past struggles with an eating disorder and released "Road Less Traveled," the first single off of her sophomore album of the same name, which was released in January. The track is a powerful anthem encouraging women to define beauty for themselves.
Cam got married in 2016, but that's only one of the major milestones that the young artist experienced last year. Following the release of her debut album and single "Burning House" in 2015, Cam spent most of 2016 on the road, first opening for the likes of Brad Paisley and Dierks Bentley, then taking her turn in the top marquee spot during a headlining tour in the fall.
First known for writing hit country songs for other artists (think Miranda Lambert's "Mama's Broken Heart" and Kacey Musgraves "Follow Your Arrow), Brandy Clark used her talents for an album of her own in 2016. The release of Clark's sophomore record, Big Day in a Small Town, gave listeners a glimpse into the heart and soul of life in a small town and earned the singer a Grammys nomination (and a spot on The Boot's Top 10 Country Music Albums of 2016 list).
Another artist who spent years honing her songwriting chops by penning songs for other acts, Maren Morris owned 2016. Her debut album, Hero, was released in June, giving country fans a look at the 26-year-old's gritty songwriting and massive appeal. Since then, the singer has opened for Keith Urban (and is now headlining her own tour), took home the CMA for New Artist of the Year and won Best Country Solo Performance at the 2017 Grammy Awards.
