The most popular Valentine's Day treat in Wyoming isn't candy hearts or Hershey kisses. For the second year in a row, chocolate roses topped a study ranking the favorite candies in every state.

An estimated 10,000 pounds of chocolate roses are consumed in the Cowboy State every year between January 1st and February 14th. Heart-shaped boxes of chocolate and conversation hearts ranked second and third, respectively.

Wyoming was one of five states where chocolate roses claimed the top spot, along with Illinois, Kentucky, New Mexico, and Oregon. Conversation hearts are the most popular Valentine's Day candy nationwide, accounting for just over 10 percent of all candy sales.

Around the region, conversation hearts were the most popular purchases in Colorado and Montana. Hershey kisses finished first in South Dakota and Utah. M+M's took the top spot in Idaho while Nebraska lovebirds chose chocolate hearts.

The study estimates that 8.2 billion candy hearts will be produced this year nationwide. Americans will also consume over 40 million heart-shaped boxes of chocolate, with caramel-filled chocolates ranking as the most popular.
