Wyoming is the most dangerous state for teenage drivers, according to a new study.

The report claims teenagers drive more miles in Wyoming than any other state. Wyoming tied with Alabama for the highest percentage of fatal accidents among teen drivers and ranked 48th for teen DUI arrests per capita.

Insurance premiums for parents adding a teenage driver to their policies are well above the national average in Wyoming, ranking 30th overall. The Cowboy State ranked 28th for the average cost of car repairs for teen drivers. The study also cited a lack of driver's education programs in Wyoming and the relative leniency of state laws pertaining to teenagers on the road.

Several states around the region also ranked among the worst for teen drivers. South Dakota finished just in front of Wyoming in 49th place. Montana ranked 46th, Idaho 41st, Utah 39th, Nebraska 34th, and Colorado 28th.

Maryland, New York, Massachusetts, Louisiana, and Texas are the safest states for teen drivers, according to the study. Along with Wyoming, South Dakota, and Montana, Missouri and Arizona rounded out the five worst states for teenagers behind the wheel.
