What's the best small town in Wyoming? If you ask 100 people, you might get 100 different answers. After all, they're all small towns here in the Cowboy State.

A new list of the Best Small Towns In Every State says Buffalo, population 4.584, is the best of the bunch in Wyoming. The Johnson County seat is steeped in history, surrounded by natural beauty, and renowned for year-round outdoor recreation. The Insider article also cites the famous Occidental Hotel, the Jim Gatchell Memorial Museum, and a vibrant Main Street among Buffalo's many attractions.

Other small towns on the list include Crested Butte, Colo., Ketchum, Idaho, Whitefish, Mont., Chadron, Neb., Custer, S.D., and Green River, Utah, which lies 285 miles southwest of Green River, Wyo.

Of course, some folks in Wyoming wouldn't consider Buffalo to be a small town, at least not by our standards. Another list recently ranked the best really small towns to live in the Cowboy State. The tiny town of Taylor, population 60, near the Wyo.-Idaho border topped the study, followed by Hyattville (population 55), Hill View Heights (population 58), Brookhurst (population 183), and Grover (population 283).
