Councilman Johnson’s try at repealing a ban on skateboarding downtown came up short, but a colleague wants skateboarding allowed only for commuting to work.

Mark Rinne’s new ordinance still prohibits skateboarding, except for those who keep it rolling up the street.

It’s good exercise, and beats walking. … It could also be fun watching a bad skate-boarder take a little tumble.

Maybe the best reason for repeal is from, Keith Coombes, at Ernie November’s Shop downtown - you know the place where you can buy skateboards, but you can’t skate. Keith says, “It’s just a youthful thing. I’m 40, and it makes me feel like a kid again.”

Here is how our own listeners are mostly for it - allowing skateboarding for commuting.
