Former University of Wyoming student-athlete Catherine Cloetta is one of 517 honorees, who have been nominated for the 2016 NCAA Woman of the Year award.

Cloetta graduated this spring with a 4.0 grade point average in chemistry and physiology. She was a Mountain West Scholar-Athlete twice in both cross country and track and field. Recently, Cloetta was chosen to the Academic All-District VII Track & Field/Cross Country team and is on the ballot for Academic All-America honors to be announced later this month.

The native of Jackson, WY, was also a finalist for UW’s top graduating female. The honor is named the Rosemarie Martha Spitaleri Award.

Cloetta is a three-year member of both cross country and track and field squad’s. She’s in the all-time top 10 in the steeplechase with the fourth-fastest time. Cloetta helped the Cowgirls finish second indoors and fourth outdoors at the 2014 MW Championships. In addition, she helped the UW women place third at the MW Cross Country Championships in 2014. All three marks are program-bests in Cowgirl history.

The NCAA Woman of the Year award is in its 26th year. It honors graduating female student-athletes for their achievements in academics, athletics, service and leadership. The top 30 honorees will be announced in September.
