If you're thinking about travel plans for the 4th of July, I have a spot you may not be thinking about, Lander, Wyoming.

Why Lander? You may think to yourself. But that's only because you've never been on the 4th. Do a quick poll question with your friends, "Have you ever been to Lander for the 4th of July?" Those that have, will agree, it's the best.

The small town Independence Day celebration begins early in the morning with the half marathon, 5K, and downtown parade. Thousands of residents and tourists come to celebrate one of Wyoming's best parades...

If you didn't get hit with a fire hose or water balloon during the parade, you've still got an opportunity to cool off right after. Fire trucks park at the intersection of 4th and Main where a crowd of hundreds have gathered for some more summer fun. Each fire truck turns their hoses to the sky, and men on cranes shoot water to the crowd below...

Throughout the afternoon you can catch live music at many downtown bars and restaurants. I'd recommend getting a reservation to assure your spot. A couple of popular spots include the Gannett Grill/Lander Bar or Tony's Pizza.

The Lander Rotary Club's annual Buffalo BBQ happens each afternoon in City Park and is well worth the long wait for lunch. From 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. residents gather in the scenic park to celebrate with BBQ, music, and games. Lunch tickets are just $10 and you'll discover it's the best deal in town.

If you're not quite ready for fireworks, in the evening the Lander Fairgrounds hosts a very popular rodeo that begins at 6:30 p.m. both July 3rd and July 4th...

If you're ready for the biggest show in the sky that night, it won't take you long to find it. Lander's entire sky is filled with fireworks. They are legal in city limits, so stock up and have the time of your life, or save your money enjoy the views just outside of town where you can overlook the city.
